Solar Open Access Approvals in Uttar Pradesh

Open access lets a business use solar power generated away from its own premises — but the approvals run across several departments and phases. We take MW-scale projects through every one of them, from project support to commissioning.

What open access means for a business

With green energy open access, a consumer can source renewable electricity from a plant it owns elsewhere (captive), shares with other consumers (group captive) or buys from a third-party developer, and receive it through the transmission and distribution network. It suits businesses with large, steady loads and not enough roof or land on their own site.

The Ministry of Power’s Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022 lowered the eligibility threshold to a contracted load of 100 kW (from the earlier 1 MW), channelled applications through a national portal and set a 15-day timeline for approval. The rules were amended in 2023.

How we take a project through

  1. 1

    Project support and feasibility

Checking eligibility, the open access route that suits the load (captive, group captive or third-party purchase) and the charges and benefits that apply, before money is committed.

  2. 2

    Applications and approvals

Preparing and filing the regulatory applications and following them up with the state agencies and utilities involved, phase by phase.

  3. 3

    Connectivity and metering

Coordinating grid connectivity, metering and the technical conditions the approvals depend on.

  4. 4

    Through to commissioning

Staying with the project until the plant is commissioned and power flows under the approved arrangement.

Why it needs an experienced hand

The central rules set the framework, but each state applies its own regulations, charges and procedures, and they change. Approvals depend on each other, so one missing document can hold up connectivity or commissioning. Our team brings consulting experience from reputed companies and over a decade in the solar sector to keep each phase moving.
